Waterproofing Causes & Treatments

Tile Gaps & Joints Waterproofing:

Cause: Water can leak into walls through cracks in tiles, broken tiles, and gaps around bathroom pipes.

Treatment:

1. Wait a day for tiles to set, remove spacers, and clean joints.

2. Mix resin, hardener, and filler until smooth.

3. Press the grout into joints, ensuring full coverage.

New Bathroom Waterproofing:

Clean & Inspect: Remove loose material (paint, dust, grease, bitumen) with wire brush/water jet. Check all surfaces, especially corners and channels, for cracks with a hammer.

Prime & Seal Cracks: Apply Tile primer (brush only). Fill cracks (up to 3mm with sealant, 3-10mm with textured filler).

Acrylic Coating: Apply two coats of Acrylic with drying time between each (4-6 hours).

Water Tank Waterproofing:

Cause: Water tanks and cement structures can crack and leak due to water pressure, age, and changing temperatures.

Treatment:

1. Clean surface, removing loose debris, and dampen it.

2. Mix Base (850gm), Hardener (900gm), and Filler (3.25kg) thoroughly.

3. Slowly add 750-800ml water while mixing until a brushable consistency is achieved.

4. Apply 1st coat with a brush, let it dry for 4 hours.

5. Apply 2nd coat perpendicular to the 1st, let it dry for 4 hours.

6. Epoxy Triblock cures in 7 days, avoid water contact during this time.

Switchboard Gap Waterproofing:

Cause: Mismatched fillers in gaps around switchboards can ruin the wall’s look.

Treatment:

1. Prepare the area: Clean the surface thoroughly and apply a primer if needed.

2. Apply sealant: Dispense sealant into the gap using a sealant gun, smoothing it out for a neat finish.

3. Build up: For wider gaps, apply additional layers of sealant after the first has dried.

4. Match the finish: Apply a primer and paint to blend the sealed area with the wall.

Window & Door Frames Waterproofing:

Grill Fittings Wateproofing:

1. Prepare gap: Create a “V” groove, clean, and prime gap edges.

3. Apply base coat: Fill the crack with undiluted filler, and spread 3cm on each side.

4. Finish: Apply the second coat of undiluted filler, and let dry.

Damp Patches on Walls:

Cause: Wind-driven rain can seep through exterior walls, causing interior dampness.

Treatment:

1. Remove loose paint, dust, grease and bitumen coatings (wire brush, water jet, vacuum).

2. Fill cracks: under 3mm (Crack Seal), up to 10mm (Textured Crack Filler).

3. Apply 1 coat waterproofing base coat diluted 10% with water (dry for 4 hours).

4. Apply 1 coat undiluted waterproofing base coat

5. Paint: Apply 2 coats of exterior emulsion paint.

Skirting Area & Efflorescence:

Cause: Waterproofing problems, particularly in ground-level skirting areas, can arise from various sources: rainfall, gardening activities, plumbing malfunctions, or rising groundwater. The presence of dissolved salts in groundwater may lead to efflorescence, a white crystalline deposit on surfaces.

Treatment:

1. Ensure the brick area is clean, strong, and fully cured.

2. Remove the affected plaster around the bricks.

3. Repair small cracks with SmartCare Crack Seal, use mortar for larger ones.

4. Apply Damp Block 2K in two perpendicular coats on the dry surface.

5. Apply waterproofing Admixture screed within 24-48 hours for bricks.

6. Allow 3-5 days curing for complete waterproofing.

Dampness:

Cause: Dampness in bathroom walls can originate from leaks in pipes, sanitary connections, or wall cracks.

Treatment:

1. Prepare wall: Clean, repair cracks, and fix leaks.

2. Treat dampness: Apply damp-proof layers followed by waterproofing putty.

3. Treat good condition: Apply Hydroloc Xtreme and waterproofing putty.

4. Finish: Allow drying, sand, and paint.

Ceiling:

Cause: Water seepage through terrace slabs can occur due to inadequate slope, blocked drainage systems, or cracks in the slabs.

Treatment:

1. Clean & Inspect: Remove loose material (paint, dust, grease, bitumen) with wire brush/water jet. Check all surfaces, especially corners and channels, for cracks with a hammer.

2. Prime & Seal Cracks: Apply diluted self-priming Acrylic coat (brush only). Fill cracks (up to 3mm with sealant, 3-10mm with textured filler).

3. Acrylic Coating: Apply two coats of Acrylic with drying time between each (4-6 hours).

Damp Patches Waterproofing:
